Social Media Slam Dunk for Holiday Hoops
Lake Cumberland Holiday Holiday Hoops Classic organizers first came to us for a logo and marketing materials to kick off their new high school basketball tournament. After a successful first year, they came back to KSD for a tourney website.
They wanted a site to promote the tourney to teams and to fans, but they also hoped we could solve a problem from the previous season. The tourney format, 4 days at 3 gyms, along with slow local media coverage of game results created confusion for fans as to the time and location of the next day’s games. Winning a game meant your team played at one venue; losing sent them to another.
A robust social media component was needed to deliver that degree of up-to-the-minute information. So, in addition to a traditional promotional website to draw in high quality teams and entice their fans to make the trip for the games, we branded an array of social media accounts that would become the center of attention during the tournament. Game day produced a constant stream of in-game updates and final results from all three gyms, fan posts, comments and snapshots from the stands. In the end, the problem of a lack of timely media coverage led to a solution that created a much richer tournament experience for fans.
