Most of the sculpture is Dan's work, ranging from stone constructions and carvings, bronze castings, found art installations and wood pieces.
The tour started at Dan's studio with a demonstration of blacksmith art by Dan's apprentice, Shane Gilmore. Shane has helped Dan construct many of the pieces in this private collection, which includes some of his own iron and steel works.
The walking tour covered many acres and ranged from well manicured fields to dense wooded areas... where sculpted artworks are almost hiding from view, waiting to delight the discoverer. Dan considered numerous aspects in locating, as well as constructing the art, including angles of the light, surrounding vegetation, views from up close and far away. Some of the works we saw are still in progress, such as a second dry-laid marble "egg."
The long-term vision for the garden includes many more sculptures and well-defined walking paths.
Our thanks to Dan and Richard for allowing us to enjoy a nice day with art!
