Identifying a Comprehensive Approach to Combat Substance Abuse
Since 2003 Operation UNITE has worked to rid communities in Eastern Kentucky of illegal drug use through undercover narcotics investigations, coordinating treatment for substance abusers, providing support to families and friends of substance abusers, and educating the public about the dangers of using drugs. UNITE’s goal is to educate and activate individuals by developing and empowering community coalitions to no longer accept or tolerate the drug culture.
KSD created the starburst image of the UNITE logo to illustrate the citizens of the region in a spiral of despair, their lives spinning out of control due to the impact of illegal and abused prescription drugs. The overall star shape alludes to law enforcement. The four gold images reflect individuals crying out for help. The blue image of the eagle is shown intervening on behalf of the people and represents freedom from the bonds of drug abuse and addiction.
UNITE is an acronym meaning Unlawful Narcotics Investigations, Treatment and Education. It reflects the three-pronged, comprehensive approach deemed necessary to combating substance abuse in Kentucky.
