OXFORD MEDICAL ASSOCIATES
What’s that sound?
Designed by KSD in 1992 for Oxford Medical Associates, this entrance sign centers on one of the most unexpected and delightful ideas in our portfolio: a monumental medical cross that doubles as a wind chime. The cross form, universally recognized as a symbol of healthcare and healing, was reimagined here as a functional sculptural instrument — its pipes carefully proportioned and tuned in collaboration with a professional musician to produce a genuinely beautiful tone when moved by the wind.

The clappers inside the stainless steel tubes? Baseball bats. We tested steel rods, aluminum extrusions, acrylic tubes, and a reflex hammer, but none produced the satisfying tone of a Louisville Slugger Baseball Bat.

Custom interior room signage.

The result is a sign system that does far more than identify a location. It creates an experience. Patients and visitors arriving at Oxford Medical Associates are welcomed not just visually but sonically, by something that moves, sounds, and feels alive in a way that a conventional sign never could.
