Getting Involved

To commemorate the 35th anniversary of Wendell Berry's ground-breaking book "The Unsettling of America: Culture & Agriculture," the Berry Center hosted a three-day conference in 2013 that featured notable authors, community activists, farmers, sociologists and agricultural economists.
KSD designed the conference brochure, which outlined the goal and format of the conference as well as biographies of each speaker. In keeping with the theme of the conference, the brochure was printed in limited quantity on recycled paper. KSD was also a supporting partner of the event.

JACKSONVILLE, Fl. (November, 2013) — The Master Musicians Festival (MMF) held in July was recognized last night as the Southeast Tourism Society's Festival of the Year for 2013. The Somerset, Kentucky event topped competitors from 14 southern states.

"Celebrating 20 years of great music, lining up Willie Nelson and Family as the headline act, and now, winning this honor, the Master Musicians Festival Board of Directors couldn't be more proud," said Tiffany Bourne, president of MMF. "Continued support from community sponsors, our fans, and a fantastic group of musicians has made our festival what it is today!"

From Our Hands to Yours

KSD worked with Tour Southern and Eastern Kentucky to build and launch an arts and crafts educational and marketing initiative that incorporates an iPhone app, a website and a promotional brochure. It’s called From Our Hands to Yours and it showcases the craft and artistry of more than 65 artisans found along the byways of southern and eastern Kentucky. KSD designed the iPhone app portion of From Our Hands to Yours to put a virtual gallery right in your hands. The app is a stunning art and craft gallery, a guide to annual craft festivals and craft retailers, and interactive instruction on how to play a mountain dulcimer. Download it from the App Store or browse From Our Hands to Yours on the web.

Magical Mix

Forest paths at Indian Fort Theatre are the setting for the Kentucky Guild's biannual art fairs. Tents of finely finished work line curving paths along with roaming musicians, storytellers and artist demonstrations. The magical mix of art and nature was the central theme of our identity and print design work for the Guild, with lines blurring between leaf and glass, basket and tree, and even, in the logo, artist and art.

Room for Reading

Tall, narrow pylons mark main destinations in the library's reading room. All are visible across the large room and can be referenced when directions are given from the front desk. This interior system includes directory, ADA compliant room identification, donor recognition and end-of-range signs, as well as dimensional wall letters for a few special rooms. The sign program was built and installed utilizing a complete set of documentation drawings.
