Creating a 3-D Campus Map for Somerset Community College

When a student searches for a room number, a program office or a destination like the cafeteria or art gallery on SCC's mobile wayfinding map, the app takes them there virtually. The user crosses a 3-D campus map to arrive at the correct location, and is then shown the best route within the building to navigate to their room. Driving maps can also be accessed to get to the college's 5 other campuses.

It's Our Nature

That's the slogan for the McCreary County Tourism organization located on the southern Kentucky border with Tennessee. The county is home to the Daniel Boone National Forest and the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area — one of the most beautiful, least visited scenic areas in Kentucky. In redesigning the website, KSD chose to emphasize this natural beauty. The website was built to prominently display scenic photography and includes a calendar, an event blog, a map with selectable features, and visitor concerns of where to stay and what to eat.

Rural Directions

This 150-acre southeastern Kentucky industrial park is surrounded by rural farmland. When designing the park's signature entrance, directory and standardized company identifiers, KSD's team took cues from the red barns, blackboard fences and stonework walls of the surrounding countryside. A working weathervane tops the entrance sign.

Room for Reading

Tall, narrow pylons mark main destinations in the library's reading room. All are visible across the large room and can be referenced when directions are given from the front desk. This interior system includes directory, ADA compliant room identification, donor recognition and end-of-range signs, as well as dimensional wall letters for a few special rooms. The sign program was built and installed utilizing a complete set of documentation drawings.

Downtown Somerset Interpretive Markers

KSD designed a series of 20 interpretive panels along with a pocket guidebook to complement a walking tour of historic downtown Somerset. The project scope included extensive research into local history, including interviewing historians, researching and editing photographs, and writing and planning content.
