Identifying a Comprehensive Approach to Combat Substance Abuse
Since 2003 Operation UNITE has worked to rid communities in Eastern Kentucky of illegal drug use through undercover narcotics investigations, coordinating treatment for substance abusers, providing support to families and friends of substance abusers, and educating the public about the dangers of using drugs. UNITE’s goal is to educate and activate individuals by developing and empowering community coalitions to no longer accept or tolerate the drug culture.
The Ultimate Car Care Experience
To develop a branding program for a luxury car wash, KSD created the name, logo, slogan, associated logos, marketing materials and environmental graphics. Autoindulgence was conceived to deliver the highest level of car washing and detailing in a facility that also provided a cafe and a fuel service for its customers.
Visualizing Fertile Ground for Technology Growth
The Valley Oak Technology Complex is a 150-acre regional business park designed to attract knowledge-based, technology-intensive companies to Somerset and Pulaski County. In 2001, KSD was tasked with developing a logo for the park, named for the community of Valley Oak, and located next to the Valley Oak Commerce Park, the county's industrial campus.
Coordinated Marketing Introduces Healthcare Service
Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, the primary healthcare provider in a 10-county area of rural Kentucky, asked KSD to create a graphic identity and develop an introductory marketing campaign for the Heart & Lung Institute of Lake Cumberland.
Introductory marketing materials included a 60-day quick-reveal billboard campaign that was designed to pique curiosity and then introduce the service. Tied to that campaign were coordinated newspaper and radio ads, a direct mail campaign, and letters of introduction to physicians in the region.
Logo for a New Drug Testing Company
The challenge with this project was to develop a logo that is striking, yet professional and serious around a name that, at first glance, seems less than serious. The company name is an acroynm for the parent company Premiere Integrity Solutions.
The logo: The initial letters of P.I.S. are highlighted as distinct elements to emphasize they are initials and not a word. Hexagon shapes are invoked from the skeleton formulas often used to visually represent chemical molecules, and the color palette is based on a section of the bright colors used in some drug test indicators.

In addition to a strategic planning process that established 40 new initiatives, Madison County Schools asked KSD to help define and illustrate how the district inspires excellence for students.
