It's Our Nature

That's the slogan for the McCreary County Tourism organization located on the southern Kentucky border with Tennessee. The county is home to the Daniel Boone National Forest and the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area — one of the most beautiful, least visited scenic areas in Kentucky. In redesigning the website, KSD chose to emphasize this natural beauty. The website was built to prominently display scenic photography and includes a calendar, an event blog, a map with selectable features, and visitor concerns of where to stay and what to eat.

From Our Hands to Yours

KSD worked with Tour Southern and Eastern Kentucky to build and launch an arts and crafts educational and marketing initiative that incorporates an iPhone app, a website and a promotional brochure. It’s called From Our Hands to Yours and it showcases the craft and artistry of more than 65 artisans found along the byways of southern and eastern Kentucky. KSD designed the iPhone app portion of From Our Hands to Yours to put a virtual gallery right in your hands. The app is a stunning art and craft gallery, a guide to annual craft festivals and craft retailers, and interactive instruction on how to play a mountain dulcimer. Download it from the App Store or browse From Our Hands to Yours on the web.

Interpreting Seattle's No. 3 Visitor Destination

The Lake Washington Ship Canal and Hiram M. Chittenden Locks doesn't sound like one of Seattle's top three visitor destinations alongside the Space Needle and Pike Place Market. Yet, this vital shipping lane and freshwater/saltwater barrier is just that. KSD researched on-site visitor traffic patterns, photographed site activity, illustrated comparative features and wrote text for this updated U.S. Army Corps of Engineers interpretive brochure.

Discovering Wines of Southern and Eastern Kentucky

Southern and Eastern Kentucky has cultivated a group of promising winemakers and the tourism development association for the region asked KSD to create a brochure to introduce and guide visitors to the region's flourishing vineyards. The goal was to introduce the unique qualities of Kentucky wine, and the people who make it, in an engaging and informative way.

Fun In AND Out of the Water!

Lake Cumberland and a wide variety of outdoor recreational and leisure activities are important draws to this vacation community in southeastern Kentucky. However, there are many other attractions, activities and events that further differentiate Somerset and Pulaski County as a unique destination for vacationers — including Civil War history, classic car shows, music festivals, art and craft shows, a water park, five golf courses, two vineyards and more.

Magical Mix

Forest paths at Indian Fort Theatre are the setting for the Kentucky Guild's biannual art fairs. Tents of finely finished work line curving paths along with roaming musicians, storytellers and artist demonstrations. The magical mix of art and nature was the central theme of our identity and print design work for the Guild, with lines blurring between leaf and glass, basket and tree, and even, in the logo, artist and art.
