It's Good to Have Friends

Saturday is the 25th anniversary of the Lake Cumberland Cleanup, a group effort by hundreds of folks all around the lake to rid our beautiful shorelines of everything from bottles and cans to old tires and used appliances (yes, appliances).

Seven or eight years before there was a PRIDE, the regional environmental conservation organization, a group called Friends of Lake Cumberland decided to round up volunteers and collect as much trash as they could that had washed up on the shores.

We pitched in early on to help increase awareness of the event, creating ads and other marketing items, including the bass & bald tire mascot character that the Friends have used to promote the Cleanup every year since.

To join the effort this year check out the details below or visit the Friends of Lake Cumberland Facebook page. They ask that all volunteers start by checking in at one of the locations shown below. Gloves and collection bags will be waiting for you when you get there.
