A catfish playing basketball; a college student in a circus cannon; a movie director framing you for a close-up — this is what 30 years of illustrated solutions at KSD looks like. Imagery that’s full of metaphors or incongruous mashups — sometimes bold, sometimes quiet, cartoonish, business-like or elegant — but always driven by the needs of the message.

Creating a 3-D Campus Map for Somerset Community College

When a student searches for a room number, a program office or a destination like the cafeteria or art gallery on SCC's new mobile web map, the app takes them there virtually. Driving maps can also be accessed to get to the college's 5 other campuses.

Yet, this vital shipping lane and freshwater/saltwater barrier is just that. KSD researched on-site visitor traffic patterns, photographed site activity, illustrated comparative features and wrote text for this updated U.S. Army Corps of Engineers interpretive brochure.

Magical Mix

Forest paths at Indian Fort Theatre are the setting for the Kentucky Guild's biannual art fairs. Tents of finely finished work line curving paths along with roaming musicians, storytellers and artist demonstrations. The magical mix of art and nature was the central theme of our identity and print design work for the Guild, with lines blurring between leaf and glass, basket and tree, and even, in the logo, artist and art.
